2013, 2011: AMor ministry, san carlos apache reservation, arizona
We worked on a house in process on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. In 2013 we put stucco on an entire house, including the ceiling, painted, and fixed some wires that had been stolen. In 2011, we did the electrical wiring and painted the outside of a house.
Both years, we learned that we can work comfortably in very hot weather when we take care of each other. We also learned the value of having hands-on work to do that directly affects the quality of life for a family. It feels good to work this hard for a good cause.
Each year on the mission trip we re-affirm our belief that it is our work that is our faith. The work itself is its own reward.
From one of the youth on the 2013 trip:
"Part of being a Christian is helping people who have less power in the world. There are people with less money, food, water and shelter. Jesus taught us to be compassionate, loving and generous to those in need. He also taught us that we are judged not by our words but by our actions. The youth mission trip is our chance to live out this ideal. We lived together, worked together and reminded each other to drink lots of water. We spent a week building a home together so one family would have a place to live. They know we are Christians through our work and by our love."
From one of the youth on the 2011 trip:
"Not only did you help build a house for a family that has none, you provided the Mission Trippers with a very special experience. These trips help us at the same time they help others."

2012, 2014: Sanctuary One
Our Youth chose to do an ecology based Misson Trip in 2012. We partnered with Sanctuary One in Jacksonville, Oregon. Their motto is: People, Animals, and the Earth, better together.
We did lots of farm work and cared for neglected animals. We learned about the power that loving care can have on abused or broken animals.
For this first time we had an adults-only camp. They had a great time and look forward to doing another Mission and Justice Trip.
From one of the youth on the trip:
"I am more willing to do things I wouldn't have done before."

2010: Lassen National volcanic park
The youth wanted to do something in stewardship of the Earth. At Lassen National Volcanic Park we blazed trails, cleaned campsites after a late winter, counted wildlife, cleaned trails, and removed non-native plants.
We learned the wonder and magic of being in such a beautiful place and gained a sense of respect and ownership over this park. Several of our families have returned to Lassen since this trip.
From one of the youth on the trip:
"The mighty works are the volcano, and of course, all of the work we accomplished. I feel really close to this place, and if I could stay another week, I would."
